Are You at Risk for Developing a Facial Telangiectasia?

    Last updated 10 days ago

Facial telangiectasias are tiny spider veins that can appear on any area of the face but are most commonly seen on the nose, cheeks, and chin.  They occur in patches and are often red or purple in color.  Although facial telangiectasias do not pose a threat to a person’s health or cause any symptoms, many men and women consider them an aesthetic problem and seek treatment from a vein center. Below are some of the factors that can contribute to the development of these small, web-like veins:

    • Hormonal Fluctuations

Similar to spider veins, facial telangiectasias can be influenced by changes in hormone levels during puberty, pregnancy, or menopause. Hormone replacement therapy with estrogen or progesterone can also affect their development.

    • Sun Exposure

The most common cause of a facial telangiectasia is prolonged sun exposure.  Men and women who work outside or spend prolonged periods in the sun without using protective gear will often be seen with this condition.

    • Genetics

If your immediate relatives are affected by facial telangiectasias, you may be more likely to develop the condition as you get older.

    • Gender

Women appear to be more susceptible to spider veins, telangiectasias, and varicose veins due to the effect of hormone fluctuations on the development of these conditions.

    • Aging

Especially in those with a genetic disposition, the aging process seems to promote spider vein and telangiectasia development.

Midwest Vein Center is proud to provide the communities of Glenview, Chicago, Orland Park, and Downers Grove with the PhotoDerm Intense Pulsed Light treatment for spider veins and facial telangiectasias.  In 1996, Midwest Vein Center was the first phlebology practice in Illinois to offer this revolutionary treatment, and we have been effectively treating spider veins, vascular lesions, and birthmarks ever since.  If you are interested in learning more about PhotoDerm and its many benefits, contact us today at (888) 718-7674.

Can Your Insurance Cover Varicose Vein Treatment?

    Last updated 15 days ago

Many men and women burdened with varicose veins are interested in getting treated for their condition but fear that their insurance will not cover the cost of therapy.  Although it is true that insurance companies will rarely cover treatment for a cosmetic problem, varicose veins do not typically fall into the category of “cosmetic.”  Varicosities can result in a variety of painful symptoms that can decrease a person’s quality of life and, in some cases, lead to serious health problems.

Some of the most common symptoms of varicose veins include:

    ·         Visible, swollen, and enlarged veins.

    ·         Heaviness, aching, and pain in the legs.

    ·         Swelling of the ankles.

    ·         Discoloration of the skin at the ankles and on the legs.

    ·         Ulceration over the affected vein and at the ankle, caused by blood stasis.

    ·         Bleeding over the affected vein.

    ·         Possible blood clotting in the vein, which can be life-threatening.

Because varicose veins can pose such a threat to a person’s wellbeing and overall health, the vast majority of insurance companies supports the treatment of the varicose veins and will indeed cover therapy.  The best way to find out for sure, however, is to schedule a consultation with your vein care specialist and learn more about which treatment is best for your situation.  With this information, contact your insurance provider and confirm that they will cover the procedure.  Some insurance companies require proof of necessity for the treatment, whether it is a physical exam, documentation of symptoms, or an ultrasound.

At Midwest Vein Center, we offer a variety of state-of-the-art varicose and spider vein treatments to help each of our patients improve their health and appearance.  If you are interested in learning more about our services in Glenview, make an appointment with one of our experts today by calling (888) 718-7674.
